C. Grove Haines papers, 1955-1976.

Collection consists largely of correspondence (1970-1976) which gives a brief view of Haines's association with the Johns Hopkins University Bologna Center. The letters are from his personal file in the last three years of his directorship and letters concerning his retirement. Occasional correspondents include James R. Huntley, Sir Eric Roll, and Howard H. Quint. There are also some personal documents and the draft of an unfinished article (1976) "The Land and the People."

Biographical Note: C. Grove Haines was Director of the Johns Hopkins University Bologna Center from 1955 to 1972. Haines was born in Abbottstown, Pa. in 1906 and received his B.A. in 1927 from Ursinus College and his M.A. in 1928 and his Ph. D. in 1933 from Clark University. Howard H. Quint was born in New Haven, Conn. on January 3, 1917, the son of Louis and Bessie (Clark) Quint.
